Certification in Levels


1st YEAR CERTIFICATION (pages 8, 9 in manual)fixed

 

 

**Mornings or evenings in levels- Moses 2:1-31 and Genesis 1:1-31…talk about creation

***ON  3 mile HIKE- potty talk, leave camp cleaner than you found it, what to do if lost

 

1st Station – Singing   2:00 – 2:30 including 4th-5th yr and ADULTS from PB, FV and AV

Brenda’s – Flag Area


Meet at the flag area for learning songs from the camp songbook.(OR learn Descant to camp song)

Divide the 1st years into three groups of approximately 8-10 girls.  (Red, WHITE, Blue)

 

2nd Station – Knots-(pueblo-Shauna Spencer ) Stacey Tyree and Mayra Valdez

Red Group 2:45-3:15 Blue Group 3:30-4:00 WHITE Group 4:15-4:45

-Learn how to tie a square knot, two half hitches, and a bowline knot.

- Know when to use these knots.

-Make something like the clothesline,

(Read pages 55-56 in manual and supplied material)

 

3rd Station – Observe Nature (Fairview-Laura Bray) Madison Shephard

WHITE Group 2:45-3:15   Red Group 3:30-4:00  Blue Group 4:15-4:45

-Learn to identify six kinds of plants and three kinds of animals, birds, or fish that are found in your area. (so they can look for these on the hike

- Observe interesting details about each one.  Talk about what you’ve learned and

- play scripture game if time allows. (Read pages 56-60 in manual and supplied material on plants, animals, birds, etc.)

 

4th Station – Cooking (Ella Blazzard and AV Diane Ripplinger) Kimberly Pechek

Blue Group 2:45-3:15   WHITE Group 3:30-4:00  Red Group 4:15-4:45 

Cook two items (flip pancakes on camp stove and pizzas on a buddy burner with can on top for oven)  using a fire or camp stove or both.  (Read pages 48-50 in manual)

Make sure to bring a buddy burner…

***Stake will provide food..  While the food is cooking do the following:

-Learn the basic principles for storing and preparing food in the outdoors.  (Read pages 47-48 in manual)

-Learn the fire regulations for your camping area.  Learn the procedures for properly extinguishing a fire.  (Read pages 32-33 in manual)

-Learn the basic principles of sanitation for your camp setting.  Learn how to correctly dispose of refuse while hiking.  Learn how to dispose of garbage at camp and leave the campsite cleaner than you found it.  (Read page 66 from manual that was included)
2nd YEAR CERTIFICATION (pages 11, 12 in manual)

 

divide 2nd years into groups of approximately 7-8 girls.  (Red, WHITE, Blue)

 

 

1st Station – Sharpen Knives-((Palo Verde-Dannette Hafen)Skye, Tori, Ashley Winger)

Red Group 2:00-2:30

(All go to Singing 2:45-3:15) including 4-7th yr and leaders from calico and heritage

 Blue Group 3:30-4:00

 WHITE Group 4:15-4:45

 


-Demonstrate how to properly sharpen, use, and care for a knife. 

-Make fuzz stick.  (Read pages 54-55 in manual and supplied material)

-Learn how to build two kinds of fires.  If fire regulations permit, light them and extinguish them properly.  (Read pages 32-34 in manual)

 

2nd Station – Singing 2:45-3:15


All 2nd level groups (red, WHITE, blue) and Adults+  4th-5th yr from PV  and HT and RM

3rd Station – Cooking (RM Cassie Harris) Kaylin Kolteryahn

WHITE Group 2:00-2:30  (Singing 2:45-3:15)   Red Group 3:30-4:00   Blue Group 4:15-4:45

Cook – Banana boats (cook banana boats in foil in charcoal) Don’t forget to start your coals. ***Stake will provide food. While the food is cooking, discuss the following:

-Demonstrate two methods for purifying drinking water.  (Read pages 69-70 in manual)

-Learn the basic principles of good nutrition.  (Read page 47 in manual. They will need to help plan and prepare a meal in their own ward.)

-Identify three to five poisonous plants and three to five edible plants in your area.  (Read supplied material)

 

4th Station – Survival-(Heritage- Gina Wadley)

Blue Group 2:00-2:30 (Singing 2:45-3:15)  WHITEGroup 3:30-4:00   Red Group 4:15-4:45

-Learn how to signal for help in the outdoors.  Identify local authorities (park rangers) who could provide help.  Learn how to contact these authorities.  (Read pages 66-67 in manual)

-Demonstrate how to find directions by observing the sun and stars.  (Read pages 66-67 in manual and supplied material)

-Learn about the various kinds of cloud formations.  If possible, identify three different formations during your stay at camp.  (Read pages 56-57 in manual and supplied material)

 

 


3rd YEAR CERTIFICATION (pages 14, 15 in manual)

 

 

In camp-15 min scripture reading each day, Mosiah 18:1-17, feelings of baptism

Cloud watching and /or sunrise walk

On hike- compus

divide 3rd years into groups of approximately 7 girls.  (Red,WHITE, Blue)

 

1st Station – Nature Appreciation- CR-  Kylie Greiner)  Hannah Cagle

Red Group 2:00-2:30 Blue Group2:45-3:15 (singing 330-4:00) WHITE Group 4:15-4:45

-Learn how to construct three types of emergency shelters, including those made with a tarp or other waterproof material.  (Read pages 67-68 in manual)

-Learn one way to help preserve and protect the environment in your area.  Use what you learn to make an improvement in your area.  (Read pages 31-32 in manual and supplied material)

-Learn what you would do if the water in your camp were unsafe to drink.  Describe how you would make it safe.  (Read pages 69-70 in manual)

 

2nd Station – Cooking (  Emily Graham)

WHITE Group 2:00-2:30 Red Group 2:45-3:15  (singing 330-4:00) Blue Group 4:15-4:45

You have been assigned the Dutch oven and stick cooking.  (Read pages 48-50 in manual and explain to the girls.)  .

*** Stake will provide food ( pin upside down or chocolate or Spice Apple   Dutch Oven Cakes , Stick cooking biscuits over fire  and flip pancakes on a camp stove)

While the food is cooking,

-demonstrate the procedures for extinguishing accidental fires, such as those caused by grease igniting while cooking, clothing catching on fire, or wind blowing sparks into dry vegetation.  (Read pages 34, 65 in manual)

 

3rd Station – Singing3:30-4:00

All groups (red, WHITE, blue) to this station as well as Adults and 4th-5th yr from CR and NP

 -Learn two ways to start a fire without using matches.

*Have girls Practice like in “survivor”.

-  Learn how to waterproof matches.  (Read page 34 of manual)
