Back Pack Hike...what to bring

What to Bring for the Hike

1. Backpack ……….a regular hiker’s backpack; usually one with a lightweight aluminum frame. Talk to your ward Camp Director or Scout Master, if you need to borrow one.

2. Comfortable walking shoes

3. Lightweight sleeping bag ……….Put bag in large plastic trash bag and tie it onto your backpack with rope. You may bring another heavier sleeping bag for your use during the other nights at camp. But for our hike, you will want a lightweight bag.

4. Pack the following items in your pack:

* Small flashlight

* Pocketknife

* Small first aid kit (include moleskin for blister prevention

* Rope (about 25 feet, nylon is easiest to work with)

* Sweatshsirt

* Hat & sunglasses (if you want)

* Small insect repellent

* Four large trash bags (in addition to the one for sleeping bag)

* Hairbrush

* Chapstick and sunblock lotion

* Toothbrush and small toothpaste

* Sanitary supplies, if needed

* Toilet tissue (roll some from a large roll, place in ziplock baggy)

* Camp songbook

* Canteen with drinking water or bottled water (enough for one day)

* Plastic spoon or fork (we supply the can opener)

* Piece of foil?

* Food:

Snacks for hiking …..(anything cold & wet …..grapes, carrots, trail mix, etc.)

Dinner …….Can(s) of Spaghettios, Chili, Chunky Soup, etc.

Crackers, chips, fruit, etc.

Dessert is served later that night …….our surprise!

Breakfast …..Juice box(s), muffin, granola, pop tarts, etc.

HELPFUL HINTS:

* Wear sweatpants to hike in, and sleep in them too! Sweats are the most comfortable!

* Don’t worry about a change of clothes, even under clothes. You will be in the showers on Tuesday morning before the rest of the campers have arrived!

* Brush up on some of your favorite camp song now so we can enjoy singing them along the trail while we hike.

* This list is just what you will need for your HIKE, not what you will need for the whole week of camp!
